A magical counter i made for the playdate for keeping track of health die when playing Magic with friends. Supports 2-4 player and standard and commander.

I put it as under development, but really consider it pretty done. No plans of adding more, but... I might add extra avatars if I get a sudden spark of inspiration.

Controls are simple:

  • Up and Down or CRANK to change HP
  • LEFT or RIGHT to change player
  • A to change which commander you receive damage from
  • B to reset the counter (only works once a session is running)

This is my first program and I would love it if you left a comment about how you liked it.

Loving the app so far! I plan on using at my Friday Night Magic. Also, not sure why but I’m not seeing this anymore when I use the Playdate tag.

A couple suggestions:

I would love damage/ouchies sound effects

Death animations would be cool

Thanks! Really glad you like it! Awesome to hear that it will be used for some actual games! I will look into the tag thing, I tried to put it back in another category, maybe that helped?

I was planning to compose some music and add some effect, but my scatterbrain started working on other things :S I might come back to it though - sound would be really nice.

Death animation I did consider, but I personally have a couple of cards that prevents me from dying, even below zero life, so I left out that feature - the original plan was to have stages of the avatars depending on how much damage they had taken, but reading your comment, maybe I should reconsider.

Thanks for the reply! I do see it back in the Playdate tagged page, looks like that worked. I’ve been following this project from the playdate dev forum so I’ve been eagerly awaiting.

I really like the idea of the stages! Perhaps the avatars could look “Un”dead at and below zero life?

That is actually a really fun idea! If I find the time that could be fun to implement - how do I make the necromancer undead though? hehe.

Lol maybe he becomes human but just sad

I don't know what this refers to, but it looks amazing!!!  Well done!

Thank you so much!
This counter is for keeping track of your health die when playing Magic. I'll update the description so it is more clear.

I do not play any Magic at all. But damn, this is a beautiful and well-made app! Love the illustrations, animations and overall UX. Great job!

Thanks a bunch! Really means a lot :D
